The winner of the 2024 CMA Single of the Year was announced Wednesday night (November 20).
The 58th CMA Awards are currently underway at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The annual event brings together some of country music’s biggest stars to recognize the year’s greatest industry accomplishments.
One of the night’s biggest awards, Single of the Year, recognizes the artist performing the song, unlike it’s sister category, Song of the Year, which recognizes the songwriters. This year’s nominees included an impressive lineup of songs from first-time nominee Shaboozey to veteran artist Chris Stapleton.
This year’s CMA Single of the Year nominees are:
“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” – Shaboozey
“Dirt Cheap” – Cody Johnson
“I Had Some Help” – Post Malone (feat. Morgan Wallen)
“Watermelon Moonshine” – Lainey Wilson
“White Horse” – Chris Stapleton
Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton are no strangers to this category. Johnson took home the trophy in 2022 for “‘Til You Can’t. “Stapleton has five career category nominations and two wins to his credit for “Starting Over” in 2021 and “Broken Halos” in 2018.

Lainey Wilson has one previous nomination for “Heart Like A Truck” which was nominated in 2023. Shaboozey and Post Malone landed their first nods in this category this year, although both also earns recognition in other categories, including New Artist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year, respectively.
Landman actor Billy Bob Thornton and country singer-songwriter Mark Collie took the stage to name this year’s winner.
And the 2024 Single of the Year trophy went to…
Chris Stapleton for “White Horse”!
Stapleton, co-writer Dave Cobb, and mix engineer Vance Powell made their way to the stage to accept the award. Chris kept his acceptance speech short and sweet saying, “So many great and popular songs in this category. I’m very humbled to get to win this award.”
Cobb acknowledged Chris’s wife Morgane as “a secret weapon making these records.” And Powell simply dedicated the award to his dad.
