When Ronstadt debuted her cover of Roy Orbison’s famed 1963 hit, “Blue Bayou” in 1977, she had already made quite a name for herself with hits like “You’re No Good,” “When Will I Be Loved,” and “Heat Wave” and sending four albums to platinum status – some even certified as multi-platinum!
Her rendition of Orbison’s classic soared to the top of the charts upon its release and forever etched itself into the writings of history – becoming one of her signature songs. Landing at the No. 3 position in the US, Ronstadt achieved worldwide success with the country-rock track.
To this day, many still associate Ronstadt with the song – and terms have even been created from her iconic delivery of this unforgettable hit.
