The ‘Voice’ coach and rising country star tackle one of the biggest radio hits this year during their highly-anticipated CMT Crossroads mash-up performance!
Known for her string of hits and raspy country voice, Maren Morris is proving that she’s a force to be reckoned with after taking home the CMA award for New Artist of the Year, and receiving four more nominations this year!
Additionally, Morris has penned beautiful music for the hit TV show, Nashville, and even has seen some of her songs appear on the albums of Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, and the Brothers Osborne.
With her quickly-rising country career taking over radio stations left and right, it was no doubt that she’s secure some really interesting new ventures and this one seems to fit her incredibly well!
In a backstage interview with Rolling Stone Country, Morris opened up about this dazzling blend of genres.
“As a kid growing up, there are multiple genres,” She began, adding that people label music with genres out of comfort. “Honestly, I’ve never written music with those parameters, so tonight is a physical representation of no barriers being put on creativity.”
Pairing this country starlet with one of the newest members of The Voice‘s coaching team, Alicia Keys, CMT really pulled out all the stops with this soulful country mashup and the crowd was packed in tight to see it all go down!
After her announcement as one of the new ‘Voice’ coaches, Keys was greeted with some skepticism, but easily overcame that within the first few episodes and now has garnered a newfound following from fans of many other genres – especially country!
Keys also spoke to Rolling Stone Country before the performance and expressed that she has been having a blast jumping “into each other’s worlds”.
“Really, it feels seamless, too,” Keys added. “It doesn’t feel like two worlds; it feels like one.”
While Keys is most well-known for her dazzling piano ballads and powerhouse vocals from hits like “If I Ain’t Got You” and “Girl On Fire”, she jumps right in on this twangy modern country hit – and she sounds amazing!
These two incredible musicians showcase their seemingly endless talent with a dazzling duet of Morris’ hit “80s Mercedes” and will leave you begging for more!
This latest installment of CMT Crossroads will premiere on December 2nd, 2016, but right now you can watch the full “80s Mercedes” performance below and also catch a sneak peek of the full episode!
