A Superstar Basketball Player Is Set To Appear On The Voice
Someone new is joining the team for the Voice finale, and it just so happens to be an all-star athlete!
Season 29 of The Voice will kick off its two-night finale on Monday, April 13. That episode will feature performances from the nine semi-finalists, who are:
- JW Griffin, Liv Ciara, and Mikenley Brown of Team Kelly
- Lucas West, Syd Millevoi, and KJ Willis of Team Legend
- Alexia Jayy, Jeremy Keith, and Jared Shoemaker of Team Adam
Only four artists will be left standing after the semi-finals. Coaches Adam Levine and John Legend can each take one contestant to the finale. Kelly Clarkson can bring two contestants to the finale since she won the “All-Star Showdown” during the knockouts.
The finale will air on Tuesday, April 14. The winner of Season 29 will be crowned during that episode!
Keeping in line with the “Battle of Champions” theme that The Voice embraced this season, a superstar basketball player is joining the semi-finals and finale. On April 8, NBC announced that six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butle will appear on both episodes!
According to NBC, Butler “will surely amp up the Coaches and Season 29’s remaining Artists as the audience prepares to choose The Voice’s newest winner.”
“Hey Voice fans! Jimmy Butler here in the flesh, super excited to be here,” Butler said in a video The Voice posted on social media. The clip also teased the moment when Butler introduces the coaches during the finale to get everyone hyped up. Watch it below.
Who Is Jimmy Butler?
Butler currently plays for the Golden State Warriors but has played for several NBA teams since his professional career began in 2011. Those teams include the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers.
A native of Houston, Texas, Butler has earned the nickname “Jimmy Buckets.” As mentioned previously, he’s a six-time NBA All-Star. Butler also won a gold medal as a member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team.
Butler has a musical side, too. During an interview in 2015, he joked that singing was “his calling.” He added, “I only got like a couple more years at this basketball thing ’cause singing is really starting to take over.“
More recently, Butler sang Shaboozey’s smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” at one of the Warriors’ open practices with LJ Cryer. Watch that moment in the video below!

As a self-professed “super fan” of The Voice, Butler is sure to be a fun addition to the finale! He follows in the footsteps of another athlete, former NBA star Derek Fisher, who provided backstage commentary earlier in the season.
Watch Jimmy Butler appear during the semi-finals and finale for Season 29 of The Voice on April 13 and April 14, at 9/8c on both nights. The show airs on NBC at those times and is available to stream on Peacock the following day.
