While many things have changed on The Voice during its run, one thing has always been consistent…Blake Shelton. But in October 2022, Shelton announced he’s leaving the show at the end of Season 23:
“This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me,” Shelton said in a statement on social media. “It’s been a h— of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns…”

Shelton told PEOPLE he’s shifting his priorities in life. Instead of working so much, he wants to spend more time at home with his wife, Gwen Stefani, and her three sons:
“If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life,” he said. “For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.”
Shelton continued, “It’s time to push some of this [work] stuff out and let more family and personal life in.”

But before he says “goodbye” to The Voice, Shelton will be back for one last season.
Season 23 of The Voice kicks off on March 6. Shelton and Kelly Clarkson are the returning coaches, and they’ll join newcomers Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan.
After Season 23 ends, Shelton has one thing in mind he’d love to take from the Voice set…if it would even be possible.
Speaking to PEOPLE in a more recent interview, Shelton said:
“I don’t know if they’re gonna offer [to let him take something home] or not. I feel like they owe me a d— chair though,” he said, referring to his famous red chair. “I mean, who else can sit in my chair? It’s like the three bears — I don’t want anybody else sitting in my chair. I’m gonna try to get that away from them. Maybe I’ll have to buy it or something.”

Shelton joked, “I’m sure they’re gonna say, ‘Well, the one thing you took was a lot of our money, so you should be happy with that.”
We sure hope Shelton gets to take home something from The Voice after he leaves…even if he can’t have his red chair!
