Former Dancing With the Stars professional Julianne Hough and her soon-to-be-ex-husband Brooks Laich have endured a very public marriage and, subsequently, a very public divorce.

In May 2020, Hough and former NHL player Laich confirmed their split in a public statement they issued jointly.

“We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate. We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward,” they said to People..

Their split, which came during the pandemic lockdown in many states, allowed them time to be apart and isolate separately for the time being – Julianne in California and Brooks in Idaho where they got married.

In the last few months, it has been clear that they were exploring options as they spent weeks together at the lake house in Idaho.

Apparently, they were not able to move forward and have instead officially announced their divorce.

In a new episode of his podcast with singer Gavin DeGraw, Brooks Laich opens up about the emotional toll of the divorce and how he’s found healing in allowing himself to cry in times like this.

“I cry all the time and it’s wonderful! It’s something I’ve recently learned, since the passing of our two dogs,” he said, noting the sudden deaths of the couple’s two dogs in 2019. “I’ve learned how to honor emotions in the moment and let them come up and through me and out of me and a lot of times that’s through crying.”

We wish them both future happiness.
