Carly Pearce is finally opening up about the scary injury that knocked out her front teeth a few years ago.
The “Dream Come True” singer shared the story in a video posted on Instagram. In the clip, she takes viewers back to Halloween night in 2020, explaining that she fell face-first while walking down a set of stairs.
“I’ve never talked about this publicly, but I’m ready,” Carly began. “So it was Halloween 2020, and I went to a Halloween party dressed like a cat. It was pretty early in the night, and I was going down the stairs and I fell… It was one of those kind of falls that you don’t catch yourself, so I landed straight on my mouth.”
The next thing Carly remembers is waking up to one of her friends Facetiming her mom to tell her what happened.
To show just how bad her injury was, Carly shared a photo of what her mouth looked like after the fall, and it was pretty shocking.
To make matters worse, the accident couldn’t have happened at a worse time. She was just one week away from the CMA Awards, where she was supposed to perform her duet “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” alongside Lady A’s Charles Kelley.
She later saw a dentist and a plastic surgeon, who told her that she had nearly bitten all the way through her mouth.
“I ended up spending a very long time the next day with the sweet dentist and sweet plastic surgeon that came in on their off days after Halloween to help me with my face,” she continued. “I have to get skin removed in here and get seven stitches put in my bottom lip. I spent the afternoon with the dentist who was able to put a fake piece on each of my front teeth and told me that I could come back after the CMAs to get root canals.”
Carly Pearce Proved That The Show Must Go On
In the days leading up to the CMA Awards, she visited the plastic surgeon every single day to have compresses placed on her face. Carly also added that using Aquaphor was a lifesaver while she was healing.
Thankfully, by the time the award show day came along, Carly was good enough to get on stage and sing. She even said that from far enough away, you couldn’t even tell she had very recently taken such a hard fall.
“Y’all, by the grace of God and Aquaphor and these amazing doctors, my face looked pretty normal to be able to go to the show, at least from far away.“
There was a point in the night, though, where Carly’s friend informed her that her lip had started bleeding. But, overall, it went well given the circumstances.

“I had a lisp. My teeth were that freaking loose,” she recalls. “But I did it, and I made it, and it was all fine. I ended up winning Music Event of the Year. The events that had to all happen for me to make it to the show, to then win, was moment that I’ll never forget.”
After her big night, Carly went in for three root canals the very next morning. She also said rumors started going around that she’d gotten a “bad lip job,” since people noticed how swollen her face and mouth still were.
All in all, she ended up being okay. That said, she still deals with some long-term issues today as a result of her injuries.
I’ve been in Invisalign for the last five years,” Carly reveals. “My teeth have been reconstructed on the bottom several times because they chip off. I can never bite straight on.”
