2025 Is The 13th Year Carrie Underwood Has Performed The Sunday Night Football Opening Theme
Are you waiting all day for Sunday night?
The NFL season kicks off tonight, Thursday, September 4, with the Dallas Cowboys playing against the Philadelphia Eagles, but it isnโt football season until Sunday night.
September 7 will mark the first Sunday of NBC Sunday Night Football. There, the Buffalo Bills will go against the Baltimore Ravens.
However, thatโs not the only thing football fans have to look forward to, as the 2025 iteration of Carrie Underwoodโs Sunday Night Football theme will be unveiled.
For her 13th year performing the intro song, Carrie will be reprising her rendition of โWaiting All Day For Sunday Night,โ and sheโs giving a glimpse into her approach to this staple of football season.
Behind The Scenes Of The Sunday Night Football Open
Akin to the energy of Hank Williams Jr.โs โrowdyโ Monday Night Football theme from the โ90s, which emphasized football as being part of the โAmerican tradition,โ Carrie Underwood has solidified โWaiting All Day For Sunday Nightโ as a sound that is inextricably linked to the sporting event.
โPeople come up to me, like, on the street and theyโre like, โOh my gosh, I love Sunday Night Football,โโ Carrie said while speaking with NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Sometimes, sheโll even hear the following from a fan: โThatโs my sonโs favorite song.โ
For the past 14 years, Sunday Night Football has been primetime television’s No. 1 show in all key metrics, according to NBC. The 2024-2025 season brought in a weekly average of approximately 21.6 million viewers.
Reflecting on her time singing the song, Carrie said, โItโs hard to believe itโs been 13 years.โ
Asked to describe the opening, she said, โItโs just very glam. Itโs always great, itโs always exciting, itโs always fun.โ
