Carrie Underwood Has A Rock And Roll Side
Carrie Underwood may be a country artist, but she has a rock and roll side, as she showcased during one contestant’s heavy metal cover on American Idol.
Underwood’s most devoted fans won’t be surprised to hear that the “Before He Cheats” singer loves rock music. Some of her favorite workout songs are rock songs.
In 2024, Underwood launched her CARR-DIO by CARRIE’S COUNTRY channel as an offshoot of her already successful CARRIE’S COUNTRY Sirius XM channel. The CARR-DIO channel features songs that make Underwood “feel good,” with rock music taking center stage.
“I like stuff that I can either dance to or get mad with — it kind of depends on my mood and what I’m doing,” she said, as quoted in a press release on her official website.

Underwood shared that one of her favorite workout songs is “Watch the World Burn” by Falling in Reverse. She said, “…that one gets me going.”
In addition to working out to rock music, Underwood has collaborated with rock artists several times. She famously joined Steven Tyler at the 2011 ACM Awards to sing her own song, “Undo It,” and Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.”
Underwood also performed as the opener at a few Guns N’ Roses concerts throughout 2023. Later that same year, she honored George Michael with a tribute performance at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Carrie Underwood Joins American Idol Contestant’s Heavy Metal Performance
American Idol fans got to watch Carrie Underwood share her passion for rock music when she joined one hopeful contestant’s heavy metal performance.
18-year-old Insite was one of the contestants showcased during the Season 23 premiere of American Idol. Underwood knows what it’s like to be in his shoes, since she competed on (and won) Season 4 of American Idol in 2005.
Insite kicked off his audition with a cover of Korn’s “Freak on a Leash.” Underwood loved every second of his performance, but her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, were more confused.
“…first of all, I am enjoying this, but I mean, I don’t know how we fit you in Disney Night. I just can’t figure that out,” Richie said.
When Bryan said he still wasn’t sure about Insite’s vocals, Underwood asked if he could sing something a little “softer.” But instead of going in a softer direction, Insite went for something even harder, opting to cover “Bodies” by the metal band Drowning Pool.
Insite’s song choice prompted Underwood to jump out of her chair and join him on the audition room floor. “Let’s do this, Carrie,” he said. The two took turns singing while Underwood danced and rocked out at Insite’s side. Bryan and Richie were incredibly amused by the sight.
Underwood made it clear she was a huge fan of Insite’s, and Bryan and Richie eventually came to her side. All three judges voted to give him a Golden Ticket and sent him on to Hollywood!
