Now that the Nashville Predator’s season is officially over, its former captain Mike Fisher is now out of a job, according to Carrie Underwood.
Fisher came out of retirement this season and was helping the organization reach its second Stanley Cup Finals birth in franchise history. Unfortunately, an injury during Game 6 of the second round of playoffs against the Winnipeg Jets sidelined him for an indefinite amount of time.
Hours before Game 7’s puck drop on Thursday (May 10), the Predator’s PR announced he would not be playing due to a lower body injury.

According to A to Z Sports Nashville, a source revealed that he was going to have surgery on his meniscus Thursday (May 10), but other sports news outlets just reported a lower body injury. Because his contract was for this season only, his hockey career has officially come to an end.
Despite the circumstances, it seems Fisher is in good spirits from the social media posts his wife, Underwood, has shared.
It is a tradition in the hockey world for players, and even fans, to grow a “playoff beard” and not shave until their team is knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or eventually win the Stanley Cup. Fisher had some assistance shaving his playoff beard from the couple’s three-year-old son, Isaiah.
Underwood shared a sweet video of this to Instagram. She also put a photo of Isaiah shaving Fisher’s beard on her Instagram story, saying, “Saving $$$ on grooming now that he’s out of a job…”
We’re glad they have a good sense of humor about everything! We wish Fisher a speedy recovery.
