Could Morgan Wallen Follow In His Pastor Father’s Footsteps?
Upon hearing the word “casserole,” many things may come to mind. Mom’s home cooking may be the natural first inclination for many, with the need for a new belt hole coming shortly after.
For comedian Theo Von, host of the podcast This Past Weekend with Theo Von, it was the knowledge that Morgan Wallen may have been gifted a casserole.
That was quickly debunked by the guest on his December 2 show, stand up comedian Leanne Morgan.
However, by the end of the interview, Leanne brought up the prospect of making a casserole for Theo Von, to which he replied, “Yeah, you promised Morgan one. Look, you make me one, I’ll give it to Morgan.”
Leanne laughed, but Theo Von then continued, saying, “I’mma see him tomorrow at Bible study, actually.”
Impressed, Leanne replied, “You will see him at Bible study? I think he’s gonna end up preaching, that little thing.”
Morgan is a “P.K.,” or a pastor’s kid.
The son of a minister based out of Sneedville, Tennessee, Morgan prominently describes himself as a “believer” on his bio on social media, even noting elsewhere that allusions to the Bible are something he enjoys mixing into his songs.
We had first learned of Morgan’s participation in a Bible study when he called a fan before she underwent brain surgery to let her know that he and his Bible study would be praying for her.
Thinking on the prospect of there being a Rev. Morgan Wallen, Theo paused and then told Leanne, “You know, I have no idea. I just know – yeah, he’s an inspiring guy… Morgan, he’s just him, you know? He is him.”
Chiming in, Leanne added that Morgan Wallen is “authentic.”
Earlier in the interview, Leanne noted that Morgan Wallen had dated one of her daughters back when he was in high school playing baseball.
At the time, Leanne’s daughter said she thought Morgan was “darling” but added that she thought he “liked wild girls who like to key cars” as well as girls who like to “fight in the yard.”
Returning to their Bible study talk, Leanne took a moment to reflect on Theo Von being in a Bible study with Morgan Wallen, jokingly asking, “Is it a Beth Moore? What are y’all studying?”
Put on the spot, Theo Von said, “I mean… tomorrow, I think we’re watching a movie, but… it is a Bible study.”
Responding with her resplendent Southern accent, Leanne said, “That’s so sweet, Theo Von.”
Theo Von then admitted, “I’m not sure which chapter we’re on, I shouldn’t have said that.”

Christian Themes In Morgan Wallen’s Music
On the subject of Morgan Wallen being part of a Bible study, Morgan has frequently sung about the Bible or made Christian allusions in the lyrics to his songs.
Look at a song like “I Ain’t Comin’ Back,” featuring Post Malone, which uses Biblical imagery in a tongue-in-cheek manner to convey its drama.
Another song that is particularly poignant is ”I Wrote The Book,” in which Morgan sings:
“Yeah, the good Lord knows I need it. I didn’t write it but I probably oughta read it. The one that lays by the lamp on the nightstand, one that says don’t cuss and don’t fight, or let the bottle turn you into a different man, but, damn, if I don’t do it every Friday night. Those get you into Heaven letters in red ain’t gettin’ read enough to keep me on a straight line. I’m a jack of all trades, but man I gotta say, that’s one book I didn’t write.”

This summer, Morgan and his co-writers on the song “I Got Better,” from his 2025 triple-album I’m The Problem, spoke to Billboard about how the song started as a result of a sprawling conversation about the account in Genesis of Noah’s Flood.
