Tyler Hubbard Shared About The Peace That Jesus Brought To His Life As He Mourned The Loss Of His Father

Speaking on the Christian podcast The Upload with Brooke Taylor on Wednesday, November 5, country artist Tyler Hubbard, formerly of the band Florida Georgia Line, opened up about his Christian faith and how it affects his daily life.

At the beginning of the interview, Tyler was asked by one of the podcast’s co-hosts, Brooke Taylor, to describe what faith means to him.

Tyler replied, “Well, I would say that’s a fairly loaded question, but ultimately, to simplify it, I think it’s just believing in something that you don’t always see, you know what I mean?”

Looking more specifically at his own experience with faith, he then said, “It’s just about [a] relationship, you know what I mean? A relationship with Jesus. For me, that’s what’s grown my faith. You do see Him, you do hear Him, at times, you can almost touch Him where it feels like, through life experiences and through different scenarios and prayer and all the things, He’s everywhere.”

Tyler added, “I’ve grown a lot in my faith over the last … five years or so, but faith has always been a part of my life. Growing up, I was very fortunate to have parents who pursued Jesus and taught me His ways and showed me His love.”

Reading the Bible with his parents and going to church with them, Tyler says, “set the stage” for the rest of his life.

His father helped give him that foundation of faith, but his father tragically died when Tyler was 20.

This devastating loss could have led to Tyler having a different outlook on life, but he said it was Jesus who helped him through that dark time.

Tyler Hubbard Opens Up About His Father’s Death

If you’ve heard Tyler Hubbard’s song “Miss My Daddy,” from his 2023 self-titled album, then you know the pain that Tyler feels over the loss of his father… but also the hope.

The song finds Tyler reflecting on his father, Roy Wayne Hubbard, who died on February 24, 2007, at the age of 43, with Tyler singing:

“Miss the way I had it back when he was ’round. Might’ve took it all for granted then, but I sure wouldn’t now. It’s hard for me to understand why You took him when You did, Lord, and I can’t wait to see his face again.”

Thanks to tattoo artist Kat Von D, Tyler also has his father’s portrait tattooed to his arm.

Continuing his conversation with The Upload podcast, Tyler shared about a season he went through when he was 20 and his father died, describing it as an example of a season where God puts people in positions where they need to lean on Him.

“It happened in my backyard,” Tyler started, “It was a helicopter crash, and it was super graphic, and I was just shook.”

Walking away from the wreckage, Tyler recalled how he was feeling, saying, “As I was walking away from that, I remember, like, just standing there and talking to God, and being like, ‘Alright, like, I know how this story plays out. I can get made at You right now and I can go down this road, or I can lean on You and trust You.'”

He added, “I feel like this was the moment I was training for my whole childhood.”

Noting that his father’s sudden death “didn’t seem fair,” especially considering Tyler was 20 and was just beginning to “get to a cool spot” in their relationship.

“Sometimes, you’ve just got to make a choice,” Tyler said of choosing to trust in God or be angry at Him. “The second I made that choice, I felt the embrace and I felt the peace, and I was like, ‘That makes no sense.'”

Tyler Hubbard Is Reading Through The Whole Bible For The First Time

Tyler Hubbard and his wife, Hayley, have been growing in their faith lately.

This was shared by Tyler during his conversation with the co-hosts of The Upload, with Tyler noting his wife has been “passionately pursuing her faith and pursuing Jesus.”

“It’s been really cool to sort of watch her journey, but, alongside her, just be there with her and support her, which has helped me grow in my faith,” he said.

Amid his wife’s pursuit of Christ, Tyler is also reading the Bible all the way through for the first time.

“I’m not much of a reader, at all, to be honest, so it’s always intimidated me,” Tyler admitted of reading the Bible.

However, thanks to The One-Year Bible, Tyler is reading through the Bible.

Laughing, he said he “tested the waters” to make sure he could do it, and he found that he enjoyed reading God’s Word. This year, he’s been enjoying 20 minutes of Bible study with some coffee each day.
