Dolly’s 9 to 5 Co-Star Gets The Rumor Mill Running

Ever since Dolly Parton‘s 2015 television movie Coat of Many Colors was a smash hit, there has been a passionate demand for more movies from her. She delivered in 2016 with a sequel to her original film, Coat of Many Colors: Circle of Love.

All along, Parton has been teasing future projects based on some of her other songs, including “Jolene” and “The Seeker.” But after a whole year passed with no new Parton movie, many were wondering if production on such projects had stalled.

Finally, the buzz around future Parton projects reached a high when her 9 to 5 co-stars, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, dropped a big bombshell. The two were speaking at a Netflix panel about their show Grace & Frankie when they shared that Parton would soon have a home on the streaming service as well.

We’d like to see Dolly and we keep hoping we’ll work out a schedule, but she’s just so busy,” Tomlin said. “She does so many things, and now she has a big show deal herself at Netflix, so I don’t know.”

Wait, what?!

Is It True Or Not?

Tomlin’s admission was news even to Fonda, who exclaimed, “She does?

It’s a show– Sam Haskell, her partner, they’re going to do a series about Dolly’s songs, like she did with ‘Coat of Many Colors’ and all that stuff,” Tomlin explained.

As you would expect, fans went nuts when they heard this news. But a whole day passed, and neither Netflix nor Parton spoke up to confirm or deny what Tomlin said.

So for a while, Tomlin’s admission was merely a rumor. That is, until a new statement from Parton changed everything.

At Last, Dolly Confirms The Rumors

On Monday (June 4), Parton confirmed the rumors everyone has been talking about. She has a new show deal with Netflix!

I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with @Netflix,” Parton wrote in a tweet.

Within the tweet, Parton also shared a link to a press release on her official website. The release explains her show deal more in-depth, revealing that her Dixie Pixie Productions is partnering with Warner Bros. Television to produce eight television films in her new series, which will be based on her songs.

The first film is set to debut in 2019. Parton will also be making appearances in a few of the installments.

For those of you who loved her Coat of Many Colors films, here’s some extra good news. Warner Bros. Television is the same company that helped produce both movies. So knowing how good they were, that should give you an idea of how the future films will be!

Now that we know that Parton has this new deal, we can’t wait to hear more details about each individual film. Which one of her songs are you the most intrigued to see in movie form?
