Country singer Kacey Musgraves got a jump-start on her career in 2007 after competing on the TV show Nashville Star. She placed seventh, but was signed to Mercury Nashville after her time on the show.
You can spot her in this group performance of “Dixieland Delight” with Alabama legend Randy Owen.
Since her Nashville Star days, she has released three critically-acclaimed albums; 2013’s Same Trailer, Different Park, 2015’s Pageant Material, and 2018’s Golden Hour – as well as a Christmas album titled A Very Kacey Christmas in 2016.

Despite Nashville Star helping kick off her career, she told Ellen DeGeneres during a 2018 appearance on her show that she hopes “most people kind of forget that I was apart of that,” because she wants her music to speak for itself.
The talk show host then asked Musgraves about another gig that people might not know about – being Miley Cyrus’ famous Disney character, Hannah Montana, at birthday parties.
Musgraves explained that the job didn’t last long because kids kept trying to pull her wig off, and she got paid in change, but the best part of the story was when DeGeneres secretly signaled for her producer who was hiding in the table between them to jump out and scare the “Velvet Elvis” singer – in full Hannah Montana costume!
After “Hannah Montana” jumped out of the table, Musgraves screamed at the top of her lungs and jumped out of her chair! It was a classic Ellen scare with an incredible reaction – make sure you watch it in the video below.
