22 years ago Tim McGraw and Faith Hill wed and began one of the most talked about and envied love stories in country music history.
The two first met in 1994 at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. Both were in relationships with other people at the time, but the attraction was instant. In fact, Tim’s then-girlfriend noticed the sparks and asked Tim to stay away from Faith.
Tim honored his girlfriend’s wishes, but didn’t forget about Faith. He eventually began asking her out despite the fact that she was engaged to someone else. Faith recalled the first time she remembers Tim going out of his way to get her attention.
“[Tim] brought me chicken and dumplings. [He] came to my house [unannounced]. He knocked on my door, and he had a bowl of homemade chicken dumplings,” Faith told Bobby Bones.“He said, ‘I made these myself. They’re homemade from scratch.’ He had the bowl covered in aluminum foil, and he had a spoon and a fork on top of the bowl. He said, ‘I didn’t know if you liked to eat your dumplings with a spoon or a fork.'”
In 1996, McGraw made a huge move when he asked Faith to open for him on his Spontaneous Combustion Tour, the first headlining tour of his career. Within months the two were singing duets together on stage and it became apparent that there was more to this relationship. By the end of the year, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were married.
The road wasn’t always easy for the couple who have battled through numerous issues over the course of their marriage: Tim’s battle with drug abuse and alcoholism and Faith’s search for her birth family.
After 22 years, three beautiful daughters, three record-breaking tours and too many awards to count, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have proven time and again that successful relationships in the entertainment industry do happen. Both artists took to social media on Saturday (October 6) to post celebratory notes to each other on their anniversary.
Faith shared a series of rarely seen photos of her and her husband along with a note in which she says that Tim “still takes my breath away.”
“To the love of my life, the one who still takes my breath away after 22 years of marriage,” Faith wrote. “My soul man, my soul mate, my everything. My one and only. Another 22 years is a good place to start. Happy Anniversary my love.”
