Thanks to the success of the Paramount Network television show Yellowstone and its prequel series 1883, another prequel series was green lit. Titled 1923, the show takes place in – you guessed it – the year 1923 and follows the Dutton family as they live through another massive change in the world and fight to maintain their ranch.
1923 stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, respectively. Jacob is the brother of James Dutton, who was played by Tim McGraw in 1883. Jacob and Cara came to Montana following the death of James in the 1890s. When they arrived, James’s wife Margaret, played by Faith Hill, had also died, leaving behind her two sons, John and Spencer. John was just five years old in the show 1883.
Now a grown man with a son of his own in 1923, John was helping run the ranch with his uncle and preparing his son, Jack, to take over one day. As fans know now, John was killed in episode 3 and his younger brother Spencer is returning home to help the family following his brother’s death.
This is where 1923 left off, though it will return on Sunday, February 5. See the preview for the remaining episodes of 1923 below.
Only four episodes remain in the season, so fans have been wondering how this part of the Dutton story wraps up. It seems that there is more story to tell because The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Paramount+ has renewed the show for a second season!
This isn’t a surprise based on numbers alone. 7.4 million people watched the premiere episode of 1923 and it’s been holding steady numbers ever since. We can only imagine how many people will tune into Episode 5 after a month-long break!
The official 1923 Instagram page confirmed the news, saying, “There are more stories to tell… #1923TV will return for a second season.”
We can’t wait!
