Previously Unheard-Of Yellowstone Spin-Off, Rio Palo, Will Soon Start Filming In Texas

In the long list of Yellowstone spin-off shows announced since the show’s end, this one flew under the radar.

Yellowstone concluded in December 2024 with a dramatic series finale. Now, the Duttons’ story will continue in a series of new spin-off shows.

We’ve long been familiar with a list of several upcoming spin-offs, which are all in various stages of planning. But more recently, Yellowstone fans were shocked to learn about a previously unheard-of show.

Titled Rio Palo, which means “stick river,” in Spanish, the show will soon begin filming in Texas. As WFAA out of Dallas reports, Rio Palo has selected the city of Ferris for its production. Ferris, home to about 4,000 people, is located 20 miles south of Dallas.

Brooks Williams, the Ferris city manager, said:

This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris. Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools, and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing. This city has evolved, adapted, and grown. Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next. We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started.

Officials in Ferris said the Yellowstone spin-off will film throughout the city. One unnamed location is said to be the “central home of the show’s lead characters.” Who the lead characters are remains unknown.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that casting calls were put out for extras to play various roles, including concession stand workers, an ambulance driver, rodeo attendees, and friends to a character named Dalton.

If you’re interested in working as an extra on Rio Palo, the Fort Worth-Star Telegram shared links to the applications for various roles.

It has not been revealed when Rio Palo will start filming or be released. WFAA contacted Paramount for a comment on the show, but had not heard back from the company when their report was published.

Other Yellowstone Shows Already In The Works Include…

In addition to Rio Palo, Yellowstone fans can look forward to several other spin-offs centered on some of their favorite characters. One new series, titled Y: Marshals, will focus on Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton after he joins an elite group of U.S. Marshals. The show is slated to debut on CBS in early 2026.

Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler (played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser) are also getting a spin-off called The Dutton Ranch. The show originally aimed for a premiere in late 2025, but its debut has since been delayed until 2026.

There’s also been reports about a spin-off centered on the Four Sixes Ranch. Plus, an additional series, The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, will be connected to the Yellowstone universe.

Not to mention, there’s been talk of another prequel series, 1944, following the heartbreaking conclusion of 1923 in April of this year.

From Rio Palo to 1944, Yellowstone fans will have no shortage of shows to enjoy in the upcoming months! Stay tuned for any additional details on the new programs.
