Yellowstone Might Be Over But The Duttons Live On
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Taylor Sheridan’s series, Yellowstone.
The fifth season concluded with Jamie’s death and the sale of the Yellowstone land back to the Native American tribe of Broken Rock, led by Chief Rainwater. This pivotal event scattered the Dutton family and set the stage for multiple spinoffs. The return of the land to the Broken Rock tribe was foreshadowed in the Yellowstone prequel, 1883.
Taylor Sheridan has skillfully crafted a comprehensive universe that fans now refer to as the “Yellowstoneverse,” similar to the Marvel Universe. The different series share independent storylines that intertwine to create a larger narrative, often featuring recurring characters. For instance, the prequels 1883 and 1923 explore the ancestors of the Dutton family, deepening our understanding of the Duttons we have come to know in Yellowstone.

Paramount+ has announced exciting updates on the upcoming spinoffs focused on the Dutton family.

According to a Paramount+ earnings call transcript, Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly will revisit their roles as Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton. This series is anticipated to be released in the fourth quarter of the year, likely in November, a month recognized for its “sweeps period”—a time when networks promote their top-performing shows.
Taylor Sheridan’s productions have historically achieved high ratings and viewership for Paramount+.

Kayce Dutton’s Spinoff
Now, turning back to the Yellowstone spinoffs.
Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, is set to star in a new spinoff called Y: Marshals.
This CBS original will follow Kayce Dutton as he reconnects with his military past while joining the U.S. Marshals. His experience as a Navy SEAL has been evident throughout the Yellowstone series, especially when he uses his combat training to rescue others. The official logline for the series states that Kacey will “join an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
Y: Marshals will debut on CBS in spring 2026. It will consist of 13 episodes that air weekly on Sundays. In addition to its CBS broadcast, the series will also be available to stream on Peacock.
