"God Bless The USA" Gets A Cappella Makeover From Home Free

“God Bless The USA” Gets A Cappella Makeover From Home Free

YouTube/Home Free

America fell in love with a cappella group Home Free when they competed on the singing competition show The Sing Off in 2013. Performing songs including Florida Georgia’s “Cruise”, Tom Cochran’s “Life Is A Highway,” Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire,” Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman,” Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather,” and Hunter Hayes’ “I Want Crazy,” the vocal band never faced elimination and subsequently won the entire competition!

They earned themselves a recording contract with Sony and have not disappointed their fans since. They have released four albums since their Sing Off victory, two of which were Christmas albums. They were signed to Columbia Records and have released several successful albums.

Before becoming a well-known country a cappella group, Home Free was an all-purpose group, singing a wide variety of styles including country. They had previously auditioned for The Sing Off twice before being cast on Season 4. It wasn’t until they declared country music their niche genre that they began gaining critical acclaim.

Along with recording music, the vocal band tours around the country and releases many covers on their YouTube channel, some of which have garnered upwards of 8 million views! One of their covers that has touched the hearts of Americans is their take on Lee Greenwood’s iconic song “God Bless The USA.”

Performing in front of the historic site Mount Rushmore, the five members of the group sang their hearts out and completely wowed the Internet along the way. Their version of “God Bless The USA” now has 9.8 million views and counting.

Home Free’s rendition was arranged by founding member Chris Rupp and perfectly showcases each member’s vocal talents. Beatboxer Adam Rupp sounds identical to a snare drum, while Tim Foust blows us away with his ability to hit those low notes. Chris and Rob Lundquist deliver bone-chilling harmonies to support lead tenor Austin Brown’s solos.

While nothing compares to Lee Greenwood’s original version, Home Free’s take on the song will definitely make you proud to be an American. Watch it below.
