A brown felt fedora worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones, fetches $630,000 at auction
One lucky, and wealthy, buyer is now the owner of the prized piece of movie memorabilia. The famous brown felt hat worn by Harrison Ford and his stuntman counterpart in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom recently sold for a staggering $630,000 at Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
The auction garnered over $6 million in sales on the first day alone. Other notable items for sale were a six-foot motorized filming model of Michael Keaton’s Batwing from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film and an Imperial Scout Trooper “Biker Scout” Helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The fedora sold for more than $100,000 over the estimated price
While there are multiple hats worn by the famous actor throughout the Indiana Jones franchise, this particular garment came from the collection of the late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini. According to the auction house, the fedora was originally crafted by Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London. They added:
“This fedora was made specifically for the second installment of the Indiana Jones series and matches film shots, production stills, and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S.”
Prior to the auction, experts set the estimated bid of $250,000 to $500,000. The undisclosed buyer greatly surpassed that estimate and set a new record sale price for the artifact.
Other Indiana Jones fedoras have earned similar sums
Other variations of the action character’s hat have sold for large amounts in the past. A similar piece was also made for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which was auctioned off for $300,000 in 2021. Previously, a hat seen in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark racked up an astounding $500,000 in 2015.
