Jelly Roll Surprises Brandon Lake During Award Show
Country superstar Jelly Roll surprised his good friend and Christian singer Brandon Lake during the K-LOVE fan awards show Friday night.
While Lake was giving an acceptance speech for the pair’s collaboration “Hard Fought Hallelujah” win for Song of the Year, Jelly appeared on the big screen to surprise him.
“Man, what a beautiful story man, from a jail cell to a K-Love Award, that is something only God can do himself,” Jelly Roll said. “Brandon, thank you for letting me be a part ofย this record. Thank you to the fans for voting.ย Thank you for K-Love for taking a chance on this recordย and addingย my version, and just championing it.ย I don’t take this lightly at all.”
Lake appeared shocked, as he was grinning from ear-to-ear once Jelly concluded speaking.
God Has Been Using “Hard Fought Hallelujah”
It is undeniable that God’s hand has been all over the duo’s hit, as just last month Jelly made headlines after a double rainbow appeared during his performance in front of a packed Philadelphia crowd.
โYou canโt tell me God ainโt here,โ the singer said while raising his arms to the stunning rainbow.
The video gave a breathtaking view of the sky and Jelly later posted the footage to his own Instagram, saying that “God is good.”
The moment was a deep promise for the crowd, and a sacred reminder that after every storm, God sends a sign of hope. The rainbow was also reflective of Jelly’s successful career following a difficult journey and his “hard fought hallelujah,” as he discusses in the song.

“Hard Fought Hallelujah,” An Anthem For Becoming Stronger Through Life’s Challenges
Lake originally released โHard Fought Hallelujahโ as a single in November 2024, but later united with Jelly Roll to release a new remix of the song.
The lyrics talk about overcoming life’s challenges and viewing trials and tribulations as a stepping stone to becoming a stronger person:
“โCause God, Youโve been patient,
God, Youโve been gracious,
Faithful, whatever Iโm feeling or facing.
So Iโll bring my hard-fought, heartfelt, it-is-well hallelujah.”
The two have performed the song on a number of incredible stages, including The Grand Ole Opry and during a live American Idol show.
