In efforts to be environmentally friendly, starting in the spring of 2021 the company will be implementing a new way of packaging the alcohol that uses less plastic and glass.

Currently, all the Johnnie Walker bottles of alcohol are made from solid glass or plastic and consume a lot of energy in the process of being created that releases carbon emissions into the air.

The new paper bottles will be made from wood pulp and are fully recyclable. The bottles will be created by pressurizing the pulp in molds to form the bottles and then placed into a microwave oven to seal the shape.

After that, they will be sprayed with an internal coating spray that is designed to not interact with the liquid the bottles will contain. Diageo says their bottles will use zero plastic which will contribute to cutting down on worldwide pollution.

Diageo will co-launch the paper bottles with the firm called Pulpex which also makes paper packaging for other companies like PepsiCo and Unilever. As we move forward into the future, many companies are starting to look at alternative ways of packaging their products to be environmentally friendly.
