Kelly Clarkson paid homage to her “Don’t You Wanna Stay” duet partner Jason Aldean by performing one of his songs for the “Kellyoke” segment of her talk show. She opted to sing his #1 hit from 2018, “You Make It Easy.”
“You Make It Easy” was co-written by Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, Morgan Wallen, and Jordan Schmidt. Aldean released the song as the lead single off of his album Rearview Town.
In addition to claiming the #1 spot on the Country Airplay chart, “You Make It Easy” crossed over to claim the 28th position on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
The song’s music video, directed by Shaun Silva, includes three parts, and was nominated for Male Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards.
After hearing “You Make It Easy” from Aldean for nearly three years, it was a new thing to hear the song from a female perspective in Clarkson’s “Kellyoke” cover.
Her team referred to her rendition of the song as “bluesy” in the video description on YouTube. That’s an accurate way of describing her cover, which was smooth and soulful.
Viewers seemed to enjoy her performance, and complimented it on Twitter. It was described as “amazing” and “beautiful” by some fans.
One user named Rachel Norman said the cover proves what we’ve known for years…that Clarkson should release a country record some day. “Yet another example as to why Kelly would make a BOMB country album,” Norman wrote.
