Lainey Wilson has become known for her signature bell-bottom pants, which she wears on stage, at events, and even in her personal time. She’s embraced the style so much that she even named her Grammy award-winning album Bell Bottom Country.
However, many people may not know that the look holds a much deeper meaning for Wilson than just being a fashion trend.
Lainey Wilson explains why she always chooses to wear bell-bottom pants.
The flared pants have always been close to Lainey Wilson’s heart. She’s been wearing them since she was little, and when her music career took off, she decided to make them a signature part of her style.
“A few years in [to her music career], I realized pretty quickly that as a decent female singer-songwriter, that’s not enough. I needed to do something that made me stand out and stand apart,” Wilson said in an exclusive interview with People.
Wilson joins a long list of country artists who have broken the mold and created a signature style for themselves, such as country legend Willie Nelson with his iconic long braids or Loretta Lynn, known for her detailed and elaborate gowns on stage.

At the end of the day, Wilson wants to stay true to herself by doing something that makes her feel authentic and confident.
“There were times where people looked at me crazy, thinking, ‘What in the world are you doing? Looks like you stepped out of the ’70s.’ But I just kept doing it because I believed in it. I believed that eventually if you throw something against the wall long enough that it will stick.”
But in finding her niche, the “Hang Tight Honey” singer also knows what she doesn’t like, and there’s one thing you’ll never see her wear: skinny jeans.
“You ain’t going to see me in skinny jeans,” she stated.
