A little over a month after he gave a heartbreaking interview saying he was “ready to die”, this legendary singer-songwriter has passed away at 82-years-old.
Leonard Cohen, who is most famous for his songs “Suzanne”, “Bird on the Wire” and “Hallelujah”, was loved by so many and his work spoke to even more. His passing was confirmed by a statement on his Facebook page.
A published poet, Cohen had a way with words that could not be taught. His singing has never replicated because of his unique tones and sing-speak tendencies. As he grew older his voice deepened into a whisper, but he still performed and released music until the very end of his life.
On October 21, he released his last album, You Want It Darker. Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and is a member of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Our prayers go out to Cohen’s friends and family during this time. Take a look at some celebrity reactions following his passing Thursday (Nov. 10).
A spirit and soul beyond compare.
