In 2019, a nation-wide college admissions scandal went public, where at least 53 people were charged as part of the conspiracy, which included was actress Lori Loughlin and her then-husband, Mossimo Giannulli.
On March 12, 2019, Loughlin and Giannulli were indicted by the FBI on fraud and bribery offenses and surrendered the next day. They went to court on May 22, 2020, where the actress pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, while her husband pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud.
The couple was sentenced on August 21, 2020. Loughlin received two months in jail, two years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $150,000 fine, and do 100 hours of community service. The actress served her jail time from October-December 2020.
As the scandal came to light and more and more information went out, Loughlin lost acting jobs and sponsorships, including her roles on Fuller House and When Calls The Heart.
In the past couple years, she has been making her way back to acting with roles in the show Curb Your Enthusiasm and On Call.
Lori Loughlin To Return To When Calls The Heart
Loughlin has just scored a huge win for her career, as People has confirmed that she will be returning to her fan-favorite role on the Hallmark television show When Calls The Heart. She was a main cast member on the show beginning in Season 1, and was written out of the series partway through Season 6 due to her involvement in the college admissions scandal.
The show actually took a brief hiatus so they could figure out how to write her character out of the series in a way that wasn’t finite. In Season 6, her character, Abigail Stanton, finds out that her mother is very ill, so she leaves Hope Valley, where the show takes place, to care for her.
The show continued without her and is currently promoting Season 13, which will premiere on January 4, 2026.
In a surprise announcement, People has revealed that the show has already been picked up for a 14th season! The report also stated that Loughlin will reprise her role in Season 14 for six episodes of the 12 episodes ordered.
Season 14 will premiere in 2027, which will be seven years since her last appearance on the show. Production will begin sometime in 2026.
