Released as the only single from their chart-topping 2005 greatest hits album, this iconic country ballad hit a home run with country music fans everywhere – and told a story along the way.
Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry are two of country’s hardest-rocking musical powerhouses and have been fan favorite performers since they made their smash-hit debut almost two decades ago. Just four years into their careers, Montgomery Gentry had made such an impact, they dropped their first ‘greatest hits’ compilation album and they were, yet again, ready to take over the charts.
As one of the only new songs on their record, Something to Be Proud Of: The Best of 1999-2005, their would-be-hit, “She Don’t Tell Me To” told the story of a man who had searched for his soulmate but always found difficulty with women telling him how to live his life. In a twist of fate, he finally meets someone for whom he does all the things his past lovers had asked him to do – and he does it all simply because “she don’t tell [him] to”.
Upon its release, this single soared high across the charts, peaking at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and landed firmly in the Top 25 for the year-end charts.
To this day, this is one of Montgomery Gentry’s most popular songs and one that you need to see them perform live! Check out their official music video for “She Don’t Tell Me To” below.
