Miranda Lambert has a huge reason to celebrate…and it’s all thanks to her newest album, The Weight of These Wings!
Released on November 18, 2016, The Weight of These Wings made personal history for Lambert as her first double album. The album was separated into two discs, with the first being The Nerve and the second being The Heart.
Leading up to the album’s release, Lambert made it clear that it would contain some of the most personal material that fans have ever heard from her. As she said in a promotional video for the album:
“I feel really strongly about the only talking I’ve needed to do, I’ve done. And it’s on tape. What all do you say and what all do you not say, it’s all there. All the parts of me, all the parts of the pain I went through, everything that happens to a person in their life, and especially in the last couple years for me, is on this record.“
That pain translates through songs such the mournful “Tin Man” and the reflective “Vice.” But the album also contains songs with Lambert’s signature sense of sass, such as “We Should Be Friends” and “Pink Sunglasses.”
The Weight of These Wings was a smash success, and topped the Billboard country albums chart the week of its release. It was also a crossover hit, as it made its debut at the third spot on the Billboard Top 200.
In addition to its chart success, The Weight of These Wings and its songs have been nominated for a variety of awards. It won the trophy for Album of the Year at the 2017 ACM Awards, and helped Lambert win Female Vocalist of the Year that same night.
Now the album has reached another major milestone. As announced by the RIAA, The Weight of These Wings has reached Platinum certification status, meaning that it has sold over one million units.
The news comes just 33 weeks after The Weight on These Wings made its debut. That’s pretty impressive!
Since the release of her 2005 debut album Kerosene, Lambert has seen all of her albums reach the Platinum certification status. Knowing how much buzz is still going around The Weight of These Wings, we wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes her first album to be certified Double Platinum, or higher!
As of press time, Lambert has not commented on the news concerning The Weight of These Wings. Her social media team celebrated the news by sharing a special photo of the album’s cover art on Facebook.
