Instruments Donated By The Morgan Wallen Foundation To 2 High Schools In Houston, Texas
Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem Tour kicked off last weekend in Houston, Texas, with two shows at the city’s NRG Stadium.
Performing some songs live for the first time from his chart-topping new 37-track album I’m The Problem, the first concerts have already seen big patriotic moments and elaborate pyrotechnics.
However, there’s big things happening around the tour that aren’t seen on stage.
The Morgan Wallen Foundation has donated musical instruments to two high schools in Houston, Texas, according to Big Loud, the record label Morgan is signed to.
The “2025 Tour Give Back” Initiative
This donation has been made as part of the Morgan Wallen Foundation’s “2025 Tour Give Back” initiative.
“[Morgan Wallen Foundation] is saying thank you to the communities that have welcomed Wallen in with open arms by supporting music programs in touring cities,” Big Loud said in a press release. “To commemorate his tour kick off, Wallen donated musical instruments to two local Houston schools: James Madison High School and S.P. Waltrip High School.”
For every ticket sold to one of Morgan’s shows, he donates $3 to the Morgan Wallen Foundation, which is led by Morgan’s mother, Lesli Wallen.
In an interview with Knox News, Lesli, who is program director of the Morgan Wallen Foundation, said, “I have always said to my children, ‘To whom much is given, much is required. Morgan takes this very seriously, and that makes me incredibly proud.”
She added, “The foundation work makes me prouder of Morgan than anything else. He is a man who wants to give back to those in need. It’s hard for me to put into words how much that means to me.”
In the same Knox News article, Morgan was quoted, saying, “Giving back is one of the most meaningful things I get to do. Growing up, my parents were always giving, even though we were not wealthy. So, from an early age, I was able to see how impactful you can be toward people who truly need it.”
The I’m The Problem Tour has 20 stops in 10 cities, with upcoming shows in Madison, Wisconsin; Miami Gardens, Florida; Glendale, Arizona; Seattle, Washington; Santa Clara, California; Cleveland, Ohio; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
More About Morgan And The Morgan Wallen Foundation
The Morgan Wallen Foundation focuses on supporting sports and music programs for young people.
Established in 2021, these two areas of focus reflect two of Morgan’s passions, with the foundation’s website noting that Morgan began singing with his sisters at his dad’s church in Sneedville, Tennessee, when he was three years old, and that he began playing baseball the next year.
Speaking with retired quarterback Tom Brady during a golf match in May, Morgan opened up about his past, telling Brady, “My mom just recognized early on that I had a love for it, so she had me singing when I was three, and then, when I was five, I wanted a violin for Christmas, and I started learning it.”
When he was seven years old, Morgan was offered a Southern gospel record contract, he told Brady, but said his mom wanted him to be able “to be a kid.”
From there, he turned to baseball, “I really started focusing on baseball … and by the time I turned 12, I was doing travel ball, playing 100-something games a year.”
He added, “I’m better at music than I was baseball.”
The foundation’s website notes that he turned to music following a “devastating” elbow injury in 2009 that led Morgan to return to music, writing his first song when he turned 18.
