Blake Shelton Jokes About Why He’s The Most Country Guy Around
Last month, Blake Shelton stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote his new album For Recreational Use Only.
But since Blake and Kelly have been friends for years, their conversation turned into a full-on catch-up session. The two superstars had so much to talk about that not everything made it into the original episode.
That’s why Kelly decided to share one of the funniest moments from their chat at a later date during her “What I’m Liking” segment.
The clip begins with Kelly reading the first verse of one of Blake’s newest songs, “Stay Country or Die Tryin’.” The lyrics are:
“Seven generations from a dirt road corn crop / Boots ain’t never seen easy street / Where a skeeter gets slapped ’bout as fast as a star drops / Roots run deep in this family tree”
Kelly can’t help but laugh at how country the lyrics are, and even Blake joins in, proudly saying, “That is country right there!”
The lyrics lead to a funny conversation about “country slang,” with Blake asking Kelly how she usually pronounces certain words.
“Do you say mosquito or skeeter?” he asks.
To which she confirms she says “mosquito.”
He then asked how she says the word “pecan.” Then follows it up by asking if she says “tomatoes” or just “maters.”
“Nobody but you says maters, if thats where you’re going,” Kelly said while laughing.

She shifts the conversation to how proud Blake is of his country lifestyle. She joked that every time she sees him, he’s either on an ATV or riding a John Deere.
Which, to Kelly’s point, isn’t far off. Blake often shares his adventures and everyday life on his Oklahoma ranch through his social media.
But really, Kelly was just trying to say that Blake fully lives out his country roots, and isn’t afraid to show it.
Then, in true Blake Shelton fashion, he took the moment to deliver a line that that was so perfectly over-the-top that it made Kelly burst into laughter.
“Helly yeah, checking out my cousins, all that stuff man,” he says about posts he shares online. “We try to keep it country on my socials.”
Well, it’s safe to say that Blake Shelton may have just proven he’s the most country person ever with that joke!
