One of America’s tastiest and most simple dessert recipes was developed by accident in the mid-1800s. Legend has it that the beloved cobbler was developed as a modified version of a pie that could be prepared over an open fire. Whatever fruit was available was dumped into a dutch oven then topped with blobs of biscuit dough. Apparently, settlers often ate cobbler for breakfast or a main dish.
Toward the end of the 19th century, cobbler officially became a dessert and our lives were changed forever. Peach cobbler became so popular over time that it even got its own holiday. Devoted cobbler lovers celebrate the day on April 13th of each year.
One week before National Peach Cobbler Day 2020, celebrity chef and southern cook extraordinaire Paula Deen shared her recipe for the dessert online in a video filmed in her home kitchen. Her recipe is so simple that you probably have everything on hand to make it now!
