What makes a pairing of artists worthy of Musical Event of the Year?

At the Country Music Association Awards, it means that at least one of the artists involved is predominantly associated with the genre of country music.

Awarded to each of the artists involved, as well as the producers, this award is given to the best “collaboration of two or more people” who “performed together, as a unit, on a country single or album.”

The nominees in this category include:

  • Riley Green and Ella Langley for “Don’t Mind If I Do,” which is the title track for Riley Green’s third album. Notably, this duo won Musical Event of the Year in 2024 for their single “You Look Like You Love Me.”
  • Christian artist Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll for “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” While the song was originally released with just Brandon Lake singing, the version of the song featuring Jelly Roll became a match made in Heaven for the two artists.
  • Cody Johnson teamed up with Carrie Underwood for the song “I’m Gonna Love You,” which was a track released on the Deluxe Edition of Johnson’s album Leather.
  • Last year, Post Malone was nominated for Musical Event of the Year for his F-1 Trillion song “Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen. This year, he’s nominated again, but this time for “Pour Me A Drink,” featuring Blake Shelton.
  • Megan Moroney and Kenny Chesney’s “You Had To Be There” was released as a single in 2025, and it was nominated for Musical Event of the Year.

“Pour Me A Drink” by Post Malone and Blake Shelton Wins The Award For Musical Event Of The Year

On November 19, ahead of the evening broadcast of the CMA Awards, the winner of Musical Event of the Year was revealed on Good Morning America.

“Pour Me A Drink” by Post Malone and Blake Shelton was announced as the winner. With this award, this is Blake’s first CMA Award win since his 2019 victory in the category Single of the Year for “God’s Country.”

This song was one of the many collaborations between Post Malone and prominent country artists on his 2024 album, F-1 Trillion.

Released as a single, the song has a music video which shows Post Malone and Blake Shelton at a variety of weekend parties. There, Blake plays wingman for Posty, suggesting there’s a gal he should probably treat to a drink at a lake party.

Speaking from the set of the music video, Blake described the festivities depicted in the video as that of “the greatest party in the history of country music.”
