After weeks of speculation, Rascal Flatts finally announced that they would be hitting the road together once again.

Rascal Flatts was formed by Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney in 1999, and they signed a record deal the next year with Disney Music Group’s Lyric Street Records. During their time with Lyric Street, they released six albums, all of which were certified Platinum or higher.

In 2010, they moved to Big Machine Records and continued their country music domination.

They released four more albums before announcing a farewell tour titled Rascal Flatts: Life Is a Highway Tour, slated for a June 2020 kickoff.

While promoting the tour on CBS This Morning in January 2020, the trio gave an in-depth reason as to why they decided to do the farewell tour now.

You get to a certain part in your career where, we’ve been blessed to have so many hits, so many number ones, that you actually compete with yourself on radio,” said the group’s lead singer, Gary LeVox. “And it’s tough, year after year, to outdo the tour that you’ve done previously the year before.”

He continued, “We haven’t really had a break in 20 years. We haven’t had time to reflect.”

As we all know, that tour was not able to even start due to the COVID-19 pandemic that shut down the world just two months after the farewell tour announcement.

In May 2020, Rascal Flatts announced their decision to completely cancel the tour, although fans hoped they would just continue to postpone the dates.

Flattheads, after a lot of difficult conversations that we never thought we would be having, we have decided that in the interest of the safety of everyone involved we will not be moving forward with our Farewell Tour,” read a statement on the band’s official social media pages.

Over the next few years, DeMarcus, Rooney, and LeVox had solo projects released in 2021 and every time they were interviewed, they would be asked about a Rascal Flatts reunion. Some personal struggles barred the reunion from happening earlier, but now all three members are back on the same page.

On September 16, the band teased something on social media.

They shared a photo of them on stage with the caption, “And they come from miles around, for that moment when the lights go out… Sign up for our email list to be the first to know.”

This led fans to believe it was finally time for a Rascal Flatts reunion! Although it took them two more weeks to announce the news, the fans were exactly right!

Their final tease was a video of all three members each walking through a door that read “Stage Door” on Monday (September 30).
