The Second Half Of The Road Contestants Perform In Dallas

Last week, six of the contestants performed at The Factory in Dallas, Texas, and one was sent home. Tonight (November 2), the remaining five took the same stage to showcase their artistry in hopes of moving on to the next city.

Jon Wood opened the show with Toby Keith’s 1993 debut hit, “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.” Blake Shelton described his musical style as being similar to “Ronnie Dunn’s sound.” He then slowed things down for his heartfelt original, “Go Out Like That,” which was dedicated to his grandfather who passed away from Covid.

Up next, Cassidy Daniels brought the soul when she covered Bonnie Raitt’s “Angel From Montgomery.” Afterwards, she showed off her vocal skill with her original song, “Heart Shaped Necklace.” At the advice of Gretchen Wilson, she added a vocal run at the end of the song and “knocked the boots” off the audience.

Folk artist Forrest McCurren survived elimination after being in the bottom three during the first episode. This week, he performed a cover of “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” by Jim Croce. Shelton and Urban agreed that the aspiring artist is a strong storyteller but is limited as a singer. The lyrics to his original song, “Get Lucky Tonight” elicited some laughs from the crowd.

Texas native Briana Adams paid homage to classic country with Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time.” She described her next song, an original titled “Honky Tonk Romance,” as “not your typical love song.” Shelton and Urban commented that they, and the audience, could tell that she was not giving her all.

Billie Jo Jones fought illness all week and struggled in preparation for her performance. She first performed one of her “most-favorite” songs, “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” by Reba McEntire. She then gave a glimpse of her life story through her original song “She Did,” written about her grandmother stepping in to raise her in her mother’s absence. Both her grandmother and grandfather were in the audience for the emotional performance.
