Morgan Wallen’s High School Is Honoring Him In A Big Way
Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tennessee, has announced plans to rename its baseball field in honor of country superstar and former student Morgan Wallen.
Wallen graduated from Gibbs High School in 2011. The Knoxville native was a member of the school’s baseball team during his time there.
According to local news station WATE Knoxville, the school’s principal Jason Webster submitted Wallen’s name for nomination to district officials in October. The approval to rename the field became official on Friday, March 7.

Webster says that the decision to rename the school’s field as “Morgan Wallen Field” comes as a gesture of appreciation for all Wallen has done to give back to his hometown and school after achieving fame.
“He’s been positive promoter of Gibbs and has given back throughout his time after high school,” he said in a statement. “We’re thankful for the things that he does, not just for Gibbs high school, but Knox County schools and the community at large. He’s a very giving person and we’re excited to do this for him.”
Just last year, the “Last Night” singer donated $100,000 to two baseball parks in Jefferson City, just outside of the town where he grew up. The parks, which had been neglected for many years, were unable to host games before receiving the generous donation. The money went towards helping rebuild and replace bases, dugouts, and more to make them functional again for the community.

Wallen has also supported children beyond his hometown through his Morgan Wallen Foundation. In October, he donated $500,000 worth of instruments to 14 schools in different cities across the country.
The cities that benefited from Wallen’s kindness were Arlington, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; Denver; East Rutherford, N.J.; Hershey, Pa.; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo.; Las Vegas; Minneapolis; Nashville, T.N.; Oxford, Miss.; Philadelphia; Tampa, Fla.; and Virginia Beach, Va.
