Back in November, Carrie Underwood fell down on the steps outside her Nashville home. Just a few days after, she tweeted that she had hurt her wrist and required surgery, thanking her medical team and family for taking care of her.
It would another month and a half until we found out that she also required 40-50 stitches in her face. She revealed this news in a New Year’s letter to her fan club.
“I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [husband] Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in,” she wrote, also warning her fans that she “might look a little different” once she was ready to get back in front of a camera.
It wasn’t until last Sunday’s (April 15) ACM Awards when she felt ready to get back in front of a camera. She skipped the red carpet, but performed her brand new single, “Cry Pretty,” and received a 29 second standing ovation afterwards.
Since she did not walk the red carpet, she had not given an interview since her fall – until just recently. She appeared on the famous country radio morning show, The Bobby Bones Show, Thursday morning (April 19) and also stopped by Sirius XM The Highway to do an interview with host Storme Warren.
She looked absolutely stunning at the awards show, which left fans wondering why she even wrote that letter around New Years, but she had a pretty good explanation!
“You just don’t know how things are going to turn out,” she said. “When you’re in it…stitches and all that good stuff. We put a memo out to the fan club because I was like, ‘Man, somebody’s gonna catch me at the Kroger!’ I’m gonna be buying groceries and someone’s going to post something on Instagram and be like, ‘What’s going on?!’ So it was just important. They’ll be the first ones to come to my defense and kind of explain what happened.”
Underwood also added that her husband Mike Fisher is an “alright” nurse, although she did admit she is a difficult patient because she’s “terrible at letting anyone help with anything.”
