Not only is he a global superstar thanks to his professional wrestling career as well as countless box office hits, but he is also proving to be one of country music’s biggest fans!
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has actually shown off his love of country music for years. He performed “You Ain’t Woman Enough To Take My Man” in the 2005 movie Be Cool.
More recently, during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Johnson revealed that before he was a professional wrestler, he had dreams of being a country singer! When he was a teen, he’d go down to Broadway (though in the interview he kept calling it Broad Street) to go to shows at the honky tonk.
After learning about his past desire to be a country singer, Clarkson invited him to the set one day to collaborate. Johnson seemingly accepted by singing “Islands In The Stream.” Clarkson admitted the only time she’s ever performed that song was drunk at a karaoke bar, but it would be a good choice!
He ended up joining Kelly for a rendition of Loretta Lynn’s “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin'” in early 2023!
But even after his February 2021 “performance” of a country classic, the wrestler-turned-actor showed off his singing chops with another classic song, this time with the help of his wife, Lauren Hashian.
While sitting on a sandy beach, Hashian filmed her husband of over a year singing the 2001 song “He Drinks Tequila,” which was released by Sammy Kershaw and Lorrie Morgan.
Hashian joined in on some parts, after laughing at Johnson, who kept asking her to sing along.
“She’s giggling so I keep confidently saying ‘I’ll keep it there’ – meaning I’ll keep it in that key so you join me,” he wrote. “Truth is, [she’s] giggling because as per usual, I get to drinking and start singing in keys that don’t exist and are all over the damn place.”
At the end, she even starts beatboxing for Johnson! Music is in her blood though, her father is the late Sib Hashian, who was the drummer for rock band Boston.
