At the beginning of 2016, Tim McGraw released a song that went on to take country music by storm. Called “Humble and Kind,” the inspirational tune was written by respected Nashville songwriter Lori McKenna.
“Humble and Kind” was a number one country hit, and also crossed over to the Adult Contemporary chart, where it peaked in the 13th position. The song was nominated for many awards, and was up for some of the CMA’s top honors at its 2016 awards ceremony.
McKenna went on to win the award for CMA Song of the Year that year. The award is given to songwriters, which is why she was the recipient.
Following McKenna’s big win, McGraw took to the stage to perform the song. He had a bit of help, as he welcomed students from the Christ Presbyterian Academy to join him.
Just like every time he performed the song in the past, McGraw poured all of his energy into his delivery. As a result, he ended up creating an emotional, moving performance that spoke straight to our hearts.
We know you’ve heard McGraw sing “Humble and Kind” many times before, but you never have like this. Be sure to watch part of his performance in the clip below.
Congratulations to McKenna on winning the “Song of the Year” award for such a beautiful, well-written song!
