A big part of Top’s success has been his renditions of timeless country songs. He has consistently shown his appreciation for the artists who created the anthems that helped shape the genre by covering tracks from some of country music’s most well-known names.

He recently put his own spin on iconic songs like Willie Nelson’s “Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning” and George Strait’s 1985 hit “Nobody in His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her.” However, Top’s love for covering country hits started long before he gained attention in the spotlight.

For example, three years ago, before Top even released his debut album, he performed a version of Billy Currington’s “Pretty Good at Drinkin’ Beer.”

Although not as old as some of the covers Top has shared on his social media, Billy Currington’s “Pretty Good at Drinkin’ Beer” has become a staple in country music.

Originally released in 2010, the song appeared on Currington’s album Enjoy Yourself. It went on to become his fifth number-one hit in the U.S. and has since been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

In the video, Top delivers a stripped-down version of the song. With an acoustic guitar in hand, he effortlessly sings the lyrics while strumming the chords.

Viewers in the comment section of the video praised Top’s rendition:

“Go on son! That’s fire,” wrote a viewer.

“The voice to me is a hybrid of Doug Stone meets Ricky Skaggs. What a combination,” another wrote.

“This young man is amazing. This is better than the original, sorry Billy,” said another.
