When ABC cancelled beloved country music drama Nashville, fans were devastated. There was so much of each character’s stories that still needed telling, and they launched a social media campaign to “#BringBackNashville”. CMT listened, and a few weeks after its cancellation, the show was picked up by the network for a fifth season.
CMT began airing new episodes of Nashville in January 2017 and it has been a roller coaster of emotions for fans as we had to deal with the unexpected death of one of the main characters, Rayna Jaymes.
Season 5 took a mid-season break, but CMT recently announced it will return on Thursday, June 1 at 9pm. The season will follow the characters as they heal from Rayna’s passing and try to honor her legacy. We will also find out more about the bombshell that Scarlett dropped on Gunnar in the final few seconds. (We won’t spoil it for anyone who isn’t caught up yet!)
While we knew they would finish Season 5, we still didn’t know what the future looked like for the show. Big networks had already announced what they were canceling and renewing, but CMT had yet to make such an announcement – until Monday (April 10).
Charles Esten, who plays Jaymes’ late husband Deacon Claybourne on the drama, revealed the show’s fate to fans, as well as the crew, in a Facebook Live video Monday morning.
He and co-star Hayden Panettiere (Juliette Barnes), welcomed fans to the video and wanted to show off some of the people who help make Nashville what it is – the crew. He spilled the beans on whether or not Nashville will be coming back for a Season 6 right then and there. We found out at the very same time as the crew!
“This is our unbelievable crew who bust their butts everyday,” Esten said as they all waved to the camera. “These are the people that don’t know what Hayden and I got to find out very recently, and that is that Nashville has a Season 6 comin’ up!”
They erupted in applause and cheer, knowing that they have at least one more year of working on such an incredible TV show. Watch Esten tell them, and us, the news in the video below.
