A Shocking Seven Deaths Shake The Yellowstone Prequel As The Season Nears Its Finale
Season 2 Episode 6, “The Mountain Teeth of Monster,” from 1923, has a massive death toll.
The pacing of the season is clearly picking up, with only two episodes left of this hit show. Taylor Sheridan is concluding this season in his characteristic style: with a bang.
In this one episode alone, there were 7 on-screen deaths, including that of a major character.
The Shootout Cliff Hanger
Let’s begin with discussing the cliffhanger from the prior episode.
If you recall, Teonna Rainwater has been on the run from Father Renaud throughout the entirety of the second season after she murdered her abusers at the Catholic school she was attending against her will.
Since then, she has been on the run with her father and her romantic partner, Pete Plenty Clouds.
In episode five of 1923, the final shot shows Pete and Marshall Kent engaged in a Western-style shootout. Marshall Kent has been helping Father Renaud in his quest for “justice.”
This episode reveals that Kent won the shootout, leaving Pete dead.
This death sparked compassion in the priest, who had no complaints when Kent killed for no reason prior, and he said, “All this death you make, and we are no closer to justice. You have been tasked to bring justice to a murderer, but the murderer … is you! It is you who needs justice. Your path is the walkway to perdition, and I shall not walk it with you.”
After a discussion, the priest pulls out a gun and shoots Kent three times, leaving him dead next to Pete’s body.
Teonna and her father later discover Pete and Kent’s bodies side by side and grieve for their lost friend. Teonna’s father assumes that with Kent dead, she is now in the clear.
However, Teonna is not so convinced.
As they slept that night, the priest approached them and killed Teonna’s father.
He then held a gun to Teonna’s head and, in a distorted interpretation of Christianity, compelled her to ask for forgiveness before he planned to murder her.
Teonna refused to comply, and in response, the priest chose to kill her. However, when he pulled the trigger, he discovered that the gun was empty and had no bullets.
Teonna grabbed charcoal from the fire, burnt his face, then pulled a knife, stabbing him to death.
In these two scenes alone, the death toll of this episode rises to 4.

Alexandra’s Road Trip Ends In Tragedy
Alexandra’s journey to Montana has been nothing short of traumatic. From being robbed to experiencing abuse, she has demonstrated remarkable resilience in her quest to reunite with her love, Spencer.
In the previous episode, she met a young British couple who saved her from going to jail by testifying on her behalf. Graciously, they also invited her to stay at their home.
In this episode, the three of them engage in an in-depth conversation about Alexandra’s journey to America. The couple comes up with what they believe is a brilliant idea: to drive all the way to Montana in the middle of winter.
As their journey begins, they enjoy their adventure, sharing good food, laughter, and joy while crossing the plains. However, as they venture deeper into the mountains and get closer to Montana, they encounter a severe winter storm.
The young man notes, “It seems we’ve hit a spot of weather,” which most Americans would recognize as a sign to seek shelter. Unfortunately, the Brits are unaccustomed to the treacherous conditions and decide to press on.
The couple generously gives their last blanket to Alexandra, who is pregnant.
As the couple drives through the winter storm, Alexandra falls asleep. When she awakens, she finds the road covered in snow, rendering the car immobile. She also discovers that the young couple has tragically frozen to death.
Now, Alexandra is stranded in the middle of nowhere, clearly in a precarious situation. The camera pans out, and Elsa Dutton, who was the star of the series 1883 and has continued to be the voice of the Dutton family throughout the Yellowstone series and its prequels, delivers a chilling monologue, saying,
“Man destroys everything. He has been at war with this world since he first entered it. War with its trees. War with its weather. So is everything else. If it was up to the wolves, it would be wolves and nothing else. Same goes for the bear, and the snake, and the spider. Nothing coexists. Life is a constant state of battle for survival—and only one thing rings victorious: the world itself. Earth is a living, evolving, interactive being capable of wiping all of existence by the simplest wobble on its axis. There have been five mass extinctions on this planet where almost all life was eradicated. … It only stands to reason that a sixth one is coming.”
The tragic deaths of the young couple have raised the total death toll to 6.

The 7th Death
With Spencer Dutton returning to the Yellowstone ranch, tensions are escalating in Bozeman, Montana.
It’s evident that a war is imminent between the season’s antagonist, Whitfield, who is determined to steal the Yellowstone Ranch and eliminate every member of the Dutton family, and the Duttons themselves, who are trying to protect their home and survive.
In this episode, both sides are waiting for Spencer’s arrival in Montana, ready for the conflict to begin. Jacob Dutton is waiting at the train station with two men in an attempt to protect Spencer when he arrives.
Whitfield’s second, Banner Creighton, orders his men to be at the train station in wait for Spencer and to kill him when he arrives.
He said, “After you kill the nephew [Spencer], we kill the whole lot of ’em.”
At this time, Jack Tutton had decided to head to the train station alone to support Jacob.
On his way there, he is intercepted by two of Whitfield’s men who are on their way to kill Spencer. Jack is unaware of the danger he is in and begins to engage in a brief conversation with the men.
The men ask Jack about Spencer, and Jack tells them that no one is better with a gun, claiming he is a “close second.”
At that moment, one of Whitfield’s men, named Clyde, pulls out his gun and shoots Jack.
Sadly, this results in Jack Dutton’s death. This brings the episode’s death toll up to 7.
One can only assume that the Dutton family will seek revenge for this murder.
