Abi Carter Is The Winner Of Season 22 Of American Idol
Newly crowned American Idol champion Abi Carter shared her reaction to her big win in an emotional social media post.
The finale for Idol‘s 22nd season aired on Sunday, May 19. The three finalists were Carter, Will Moseley, and Jack Blocker.
Blocker came in third place, and Moseley was the runner-up.
Carter fell to her knees onstage after host Ryan Seacrest announced she was the winner of the season. She covered her face in shock as the crowd cheered like wild.
Carter first wowed the Idol judges during her audition when she sang “What Was I Made For” from the Barbie movie. The 21-year-old from Indio, California, was so impressive the judges elected to give her one of only three Platinum tickets they presented this season.
Carter continued to amaze the judges and Idol fans with covers of songs by Fleetwood Mac, Adele, Elton John, and more.
Abi Celebrates Being The First Female Idol Winner In Several Years
Carter’s win was monumental because it marked the first time a female singer had won the show in several years. She celebrated this fact and reacted to her Idol win in a post she shared on social media.
“HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!??!?!?!?” she wrote alongside two photos of her winning moment. “I couldn’t have imagined winning #americanidol when I started this whole journey. We haven’t had a girl winner in over 4 years and to be the first after so many seasons is the greatest honor.”
Carter shared her joy after all the hard work she poured into performing over the years. She wrote:
“I’m just a girl from Indio, who used to sing on street corners, and now I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to work with some of the most talented people in the industry and be heard by millions of people. This is my dream and I know it’s just the beginning. I love you all so much.”
Cater’s followers showered her with love in the comments, writing:
“Abi girl we knew from your audition the title was YOURS. Congratulations queen!!! So beyond deserving.”
