“Make You Feel My Love” is a song that “belongs” to many artists by now. The tune was written by Bob Dylan for his 1997 album Time Out of Mind. But Billy Joel actually released his own recording of the song before Dylan released his.

The following year, country music superstar Garth Brooks released his cover of “Make You Feel My Love.” His version topped the Hot Country Songs chart and reached the eighth spot on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Brooks’ performance was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.

“Make You Feel My Love” was covered many times over the next decade. But it was Adele‘s 2008 version of the song that became the next big recording.

Adele’s rendition of the song is the only cover track on her debut album 19:

I heard it in New York when [her manager] played it for me, and it just really touched me. It’s cheesy, but I think it’s just a stunning song, and it really just summed up everything that I’d been trying to write in my songs,” Adele told the Recording Academy.

All of these years later, Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love” is known as own of the greatest versions of the song…right up there with Brooks’, Dylan’s, and Joel’s.

So when Adele recently got involved in a plan to help one of her fans propose to his girlfriend, she knew “Make You Feel My Love” was the song she had to sing for them.

Adele was performing in front of LA’s Griffith Observatory for her Adele One Night Only televised special. During the special, Adele told her audience to keep quiet and asked for the lights to be dimmed. In that moment, one of her fans, Quentin, was leading his blindfolded girlfriend, Ashley, in front of the stage.

After removing Ashley’s blindfold, Quentin got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Adele remained out of sight as Quentin delivered his romantic proposal.

A tearful Ashley said “yes” and kissed her new fiancé. Then, Adele emerged from the shadows, which left Ashley open-mouthed in surprise.

Adele told the happy couple to sit in the front row of the audience before she started singing “Make You Feel My Love” to honor them and their engagement. It was such a heartwarming moment to witness.

The whole proposal and performance was captured on camera, and you can watch it below. This was so sweet of Adele to do!
