It is no secret that Blake Shelton will say just about anything to convince highly talented singers to join his team on The Voice.
On Monday, the country crooner, 44, and his fellow coach, John Legend, spun their chairs around for a young woman named Pia Renee. Once Pia told both coaches that she was heavily influenced by reggae music, Legend seemed very confident that Pia would join his team. Still, Shelton was not going to let Pia go without a fight.
In the last effort to win Pia to his team, Shelton tried to use his fiancée, Gwen Stefani, as leverage. Stefani famously got her start in the industry with the ska-influenced band No Doubt. She is also known to feature reggae-inflected beats.

“To say that I don’t know anything about the music that she’s performing would kind of disqualify the fact that, who knows, even by the time this airs, Gwen Stefani—she could even be my wife by then,” Shelton jokingly bragged. “She’s delivering twins right now. She’s pushing them out. But I’m here working.”
When Legend said he had no idea what his fellow judge was talking about, Shelton finally clarified. He stated:
“I’m talking about Gwen Stefani and her stamp on reggae, ska music and how much I’ve grown to love it.”
Even with Shelton’s efforts, Pia ultimately became a member of Legend’s team. Watch the full video below.
