In his pre-taped backstory video, Kennedy confessed that he “lost himself” after his parents’ divorce, and started writing songs which in turn helped him rediscover who he is as a person. He then took his passion and performs anywhere that will allow him to play.
“I want to be a legend, ” he says with confidence, “I want to be someone who changed country music…I kind of want to be an outlaw, too.”
Armed with a guitar and his raspy voice, the young country singer delivered his song with skills far beyond his years of experience.

As soon as he was finished he confessed that his song wasn’t even complete and all he had written was a verse and a chorus. Luke Bryan immediately jumped in and offered to help him finish writing the song. Katy Perry chimed in and told him, “You better finish that song ‘Nowhere,’ because it is going to take you somewhere.” Lionel Richie feels Caleb has “mastered a storyteller’s voice,” and tells him, “The three of us think you’re it!”
With his audition finished, all three judges voted unanimously for Kennedy to go to Hollywood.
