At only 19 years old, Jordan Chase has a well-developed voice that managed to capture the attention of not one, but two coaches on The Voice.
The Florida native hit the stage for his blind audition during Season 17, and performed Drake White‘s fourth single, “Makin’ Me Look Good Again.” The track was released off of White’s 2016 album Spark, and peaked at the 26th spot on the U.S. Country Airplay chart.
For a while, it seemed like none of the Voice coaches were going to turn for Chase. But it was clear they were loving his performance, as all of them were seen listening with great interest.
Finally, Blake Shelton turned his chair for the singer. For a while, it looked like he was going to be the only person to do so.
But at the absolute last second, Gwen Stefani turned around as well. To Shelton’s disgust, he was left to fight with his girlfriend of four years in order to get Chase on his team.
So glad your back keeping @blakeshelton in his place @gwenstefani #VoiceBlinds

“Me fighting for you means, I’m probably gonna pay for this later,” Shelton said as Stefani shot him a look. “That’s how much I love you.“
The discussion quickly turned comical, as Stefani tried to orchestrate her plea to Chase. In an attempt to connect with him, she said, “I can imagine being a 19-year-old boy, actually…”
“What in God’s name does that mean?” Shelton asked his girlfriend.
Kelly Clarkson lost it, and kept giggling throughout Stefani’s pitch to Chase. She was trying to explain that she can connect to him because she can imagine where he’s coming from. However, her other coaches couldn’t stop cracking up over her comments.
“We’ve never had a connection like this on the show,” Shelton teased.
In response, Stefani jokingly said to him “I hate you,” before turning to a still-laughing Clarkson and saying, “and I definitely hate you now.”
You can watch all of the hilarity unfold by checking out Chase’s audition in the video below.
As hard as Stefani tried to win Chase over, her message didn’t make the connection. Chase ended up picking Shelton as his coach, much to his delight!
