President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 Presidential Race

On Sunday (July 21), President Joe Biden released a statement announcing his decision to decline the Democratic nomination for the 2024 presidential race. The official statement read:

“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president.”

This announcement comes after Biden received pressure from both Republicans and fellow Democrats to exit the race following his heavily criticized performance at the June debate against Republican nominee Donald Trump. The 81-year-old politician’s cognitive abilities have also been strongly questioned during his term.

Joe Biden endorses Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee

In a separate post, Biden endorsed current Vice President Kamala Harris as his choice to run for the presidency in his place. He expressed:

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”

Joe Biden will finish out his current presidential term

In the statement, Biden emphasized that he intends to complete the remainder of his presidential term, which ends in January 2025. He adds that he plans to address the nation later this week to provide more details about his decision.

This news comes less than one month before the Democratic National Convention is scheduled to take place in Chicago. At this time, it is unclear who will receive the nomination, or now that person will be selected.
