Carly Pearce Revealed That She Was Diagnosed With A Heart Condition In May Of Last Year

Carly Pearce has been very open with fans about her health struggles since her diagnosis.

She shared that she has pericarditis, a condition that occurs when the thin, saclike tissue surrounding the heart becomes swollen and irritated, according to the Mayo Clinic.

In a January interview with the Today Show, Pearce said that she knew something was wrong when she kept experiencing persistent chest pains.

She described the pain she had felt, explaining that it would only ease when she bent a certain way. The pain would intensify whenever she lay back.

“That’s a classic symptom of pericarditis, Pearce said. “I had that and just a really intense shortness of breath, like almost having to suck through a straw.”

Almost a year after her diagnosis, Pearce is on a steady journey to improve her health. She’s feeling much better these days and is continuing to focus on her well-being.

“I’m doing a lot better,” Pearce said in an interview with Fox News. “I’m still kind of just on a health journey in general, just to continue to hope that this recurrent pericarditis isn’t recurrent.”

Now that the “we don’t fight anymore” singer has the answers she needed, she knows exactly how to manage her symptoms. However, getting those answers wasn’t easy.

Pearce shared that while trying to figure out what was wrong, many doctors dismissed the symptoms she described.

“I think my biggest piece of advice for anybody is, listen to your body and be your own advocate,” she added. “Because a lot of times, a lot of doctors dismissed me, and I was persistent until I got a diagnosis.”

Pearce isn’t letting her health scare keep her from living her life, though. She’s currently on the second leg of her Hummingbird World Tour, traveling across the globe until May.

In a past health update, she told fans that her performances might look a little different now because she has to follow a set routine to keep her heart rate steady.

Over time, she has learned to find a better balance while performing night after night.

“I just have to maintain balance more..trying to figure out ways to keep my mind and my body more calm.”
