What Happened With Morgan Wallen And SNL?

Morgan Wallen is releasing merchandise based on his viral “Get me to God’s Country” post, which he shared shortly after his controversial appearance on SNL.

To catch you up to speed, Wallen was the musical guest on the March 29 episode of SNL. He performed two songs on the show, “I’m the Problem” and “Just In Case.” Both songs will be featured on his upcoming album, I’m the Problem, which drops on May 16.

At the end of SNL, Wallen joined guest host Mikey Madison at the front of the stage for the traditional “Goodnights” message. While Madison spoke to the crowd and viewers at home, Wallen remained quiet.

As the credits started rolling, Wallen turned to Madison and said something to her as he gave her a quick hug. Then, he walked off the front of the stage without interacting with the SNL cast, as musical guests typically do.

Wallen’s abrupt exit sparked criticism from fans who felt it was “odd” for him to leave like that. Many longtime viewers said they couldn’t recall any musical guest walking offstage like he did during “Goodnights.”

The controversy intensified after Wallen shared a post on his Instagram Story shortly after leaving SNL. The post contained a picture of a private plane, which Wallen captioned with the message “Get me to God’s country.”

People speculated about the meaning behind Wallen’s post and if it was a hint he had less-than-positive feelings about his experience on SNL. Others turned the post into a meme, and many iterations have since taken off online.

For his part, Wallen has not addressed the controversy head-on. His first social media post since the incident came on March 31, when he teased a new song, “Come Back As a Redneck.”
