Landman‘s first season was a smash success, with Deadline reporting it “holds the titles for most-watched global premiere and finale of any Paramount+ series to date.”
Because of this, it was no surprise when Paramount announced in March that Landman had been renewed for a second season.
Shortly after this confirmation, a report surfaced that 1883 alum Sam Elliott is in talks to play a new character in Season 2 of Landman. His involvement in the series has not been officially confirmed.
While a date for the Landman season premiere has yet to be announced, the show recently shared another exciting update.
On Wednesday (April 2), the Landman social media accounts posted a photo of series lead Billy Bob Thornton with a script in his hand. The caption read, “Production has officially started on Season 2 of Landman.”

The News Comes As Taylor Sheridan Is Potentially Wrapping Up Another Series, 1923
While Landman is winding things back up, another Taylor Sheridan series is potentially ending. The Yellowstone prequel 1923 will release its nearly two-hour Season 2 finale on April 6.
As of press time, 1923 has not been renewed for a third season. However, this is likely not due to streaming numbers, as the show consistently attracts millions of viewers per episode.
Rather, Sheridan may view 1923‘s two seasons as a complete story. Its predecessor series, 1883, ended after just one season for this precise reason.

The cast and crew of 1923 have not confirmed or denied that the Season 2 finale is also the series finale. But even if it is, it likely won’t be the last installment in the Yellowstone universe.
There’s long been talk of another Yellowstone prequel series set in the 1940s. Additionally, modern-day Yellowstone spin-offs focusing on some of the show’s key characters are reportedly in the works.
In other words, whether it’s Season 2 of Landman or another show in the Yellowstone world, you’ll have plenty of new content to watch in the coming months!
